The Scotland of India - A Journey through Coorg

Tucked away on the emerald eastern slopes of the Western Ghats, Coorg—affectionately known as the Scotland of India—is a breathtaking paradise painted in deep forest green and misty blue. Here, the crisp mountain air stays perpetually perfumed with the sweet aroma of coffee blossoms, inviting travelers to slow down and breathe it all in.

Beyond its endlessly rolling hills, Coorg harbors a proud, unique identity shaped by the Kodava community. These dedicated agriculturists and fierce warriors possess deep martial traditions and a profound legacy of patriotism. Their rich heritage is mirrored in their striking traditional attire and beautifully captured in local lore; legend says the rushing goddess Cauvery pushed the pleats of the women’s sarees to the back to allow for effortless movement across the rugged terrain.

Part of the prestigious Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, this biological goldmine seamlessly shifts from high-altitude Shola grasslands to dense jungles that shelter majestic elephants and elusive tigers. It is a sensory powerhouse driven by massive estates of premium Arabica coffee, climbing vines of black pepper, and golden forest honey. From the sacred, mist-veiled waters of Talakaveri to the panoramic cloud lines of Mandalpatti, Coorg stands as an enchanting sanctuary of wilderness, ancient dynasties, and enduring warrior pride.
